WHMIS Symbols

There are a total of eight unique WHMIS symbols.  Employers must train workers to recognize these symbols and to know what they mean. The eight WHMIS symbols are identifiable by the unique images with a circular frame .

Class A

COMPRESSED GAS

compressed gas

Class D 1

POISONOUS AND INFECTIOUS MATERIALS

poisonous and infectious materials

Class B

FLAMMABLE AND COMBUSTIBLE

flammable and combustable

Class D 2

MATERIAL CAUSING OTHER TOXIC EFFECTS

other toxic effects

Class C

OXIDIZING MATERIALS

oxidizing

Class D 3

BIOHAZARDOUS INFECTIOUS MATERIAL

biohazardous

Class E

CORROSIVE MATERIAL

corrosive

Class F

DANGEROUSLY REACTIVE MATERIAL

dangerously reactive
